The paper presents the first findings about a study concerning the promotion and public fruition of a number of contemporary artworks created as part of the International Mosaic Symposium in Ploaghe (SS). In this context, each year contemporary artists are invited to create small-scale mosaics. Today, The local council wants to enhance today by holding an outdoor exhibition.
The research examines the challenges and opportunities of exhibiting small-scale, highly fragile artworks, such as mosaics, within urban public spaces, reflecting both on the technological, environmental, aesthetic and socio-cultural requirements that must be met in installations of this kind, and on the potential of alternative modes of engagement linked to the digitisation of the artworks, such as virtual tours and augmented reality.
