The genesis process of the research starts from the recognition of social and morphological, architectural and urban fragility features in the ancient villages of two towns in Basilicata, Craco and Campomaggiore, and in two towns in Afghanistan and Iran, Boost and Khuranaq, which share the peculiarity of having been progressively abandoned for different reasons. The interweaving of historical, cultural, and physical similarities between places located in geographically distant areas of the world makes it possible to experiment, through the knowledge of artifacts and urban fabrics, project designs and visions for a different and sustainable local development that involves communities with a greater awareness of unexpressed potential. The method of investigation is defined through the measurement, survey, and graphic restitution of parts of cities and their cataloging, to understand and identify possible elements of strength for the development of a pilot project for the redevelopment and urban regeneration of dispersed heritages. Highlighting the fracture lines between the “ruins” and the new opportunities for frequenting these territories can add value to the cultural heritage and allow the realization of infrastructures for tourists’ fruition of different kinds. In this graphic research, the design of cognitive itineraries integrated with educational-cultural ones is proposed and experimented through small headmasters for involvement and slow practices of immersion in natural and built landscapes.
